Gain Muscle Weight To Lose Fat

If you want to get fit and lose weight there are several things you need to start doing. You need to do cardio exercises, eat right, and also gain muscle weight by doing strength training. A pound of lean muscle takes up less space than a pound of fat. The more muscle you have the more calories your body burns on it‘s own.

If you’ve been working out and you just haven’t lost and weight, consider that you’ve lost fat but gained muscle. Weight gain of lean muscle is a very healthy weight gain. Many people do cardio exercises three times a week and muscle toning exercise three times a week also. These people do this because they know that your muscle mass makes a difference in your overall health, and also in weight loss.

So if losing weight is your goal, you need to gain some muscle weight. You’ll be a stronger, healthier person, and losing weight will become easier. Your body will become more toned and defined than ever before. You might even have a better healthier body than you did back in high school.

Choosing the Ideal Ab Workout Location

When considering where you want to work out, when you are going to be focusing on your abdominal area, there are some important factors to consider. Just like in real estate, location, location, location could mean the difference between motivating yourself to do your ab workout time and time again, or giving up because you are so uninspired by your surroundings.

First, consider the physical factors of your environment. Will you be more comfortable indoors or outdoors? Will the weather remain pleasant for the duration of your ab workout if you choose an outdoor location? Consider the amount of space you will need in order to move comfortably during your ab workout. Also, does the space allow for sitting, standing, and laying comfortably? It is important not to feel cramped or inhibited in your movements.

The other important factor when choosing a location for your ab workout is how the location will affect your frame of mind and whether your surroundings serve to motivate you. Does being seen motivate you to work harder, or would you rather have a private ab workout? How will noise affect you? Can you play music, or are you looking for a more serene and silent location? Lastly, consider whether you are in search of a tranquil environment, or if you would prefer a place that has more movement and energy.

Building Muscle Mass Through Diet

While many of those focused on building muscle mass concentrate on their workouts, diet is a great supplemental component to assist in reaching one’s fitness goals. In order to build muscle mass, it is best to eat several smaller meals throughout the day. This means approximately 4-6 meals, or one every 2 ½ to 3 hours. The largest meal of the day should be eaten at breakfast to ensure even calorie distribution throughout the day.

Protein should account for 35% of overall daily calories, which is about 40-60 grams for a 200 pound man. Each meal should also include vegetables, and a smaller amount of carbohydrates and fats in order to=2 0balance one’s diet and keep energy levels from sinking. Try to eat lean proteins in order to build muscle mass such as chicken, turkey, salmon, tuna, egg whites, cottage cheese and yogurt. When coupled with intense muscle building workouts, this diet is ideal. While not necessary, depending on your workout intensity, this diet can be paired with muscle building supplements, but it is not recommended that supplements account for more than 40% of your daily intake. Whole foods, such as the proteins listed above, should be no less than 60% of your total diet.

With core training being the latest and greatest fad term out there now in articles, workout programs, and infomercials, new studies that are published are looked at as being the standard in how to implement workout programs that allegedly will give you that tight midsection. This includes to types of exercises, how often, etc. Well, there are many times factors that are looked over in many of these studies, yet the average reader doesn’t pick up on that and is then mislead. Then, 6 months or a year down the line they wonder why they aren’t seeing any results for all of their effort.

Massages To Help Muscles Recover

In MuscleMag International, they report on how the Journal of Orthopaedic and Sports Physical Therapy says that massages immediately after exercise increases blood flow to the skin but not the muscles. This could be because blood flow to the muscles remains maximally elevated right after a workout routine and doesn’t allow room for a massage-induced increase in blood flow.

They suggest to wait at least 2 hours after you’ve finished your muscle building workout program before laying onto the massage table to have your knots flattened out to help speed up the recovery, repair, and growth process of gaining muscular weight.

Getting a regular massage will help you out in this area and will reduce your need to rely off of pain medications to deal with the soreness and stiffness that can result from intense weight training.

Look Deeper Into Medical Studies

Medical studies can help provide certain clues into many things, such as health issues that can directly affect positively or negatively our muscle building and weight gain efforts.  Case in point is a study in which 192 people with moderately high LDL cholesterol levels both raw garlic and garlic pills every day for 6 months, although their LDL cholesterol levels didn’t change.

Bravo to this study because it’s one of the few that actually demonstrates the worthless-ness of most nutritional and dietary supplements out on the market.  So many people these days want to fix everything with a pill instead of looking at their lifestyle…….including goals such as wanting to build more muscle and gain weight.

That’s right, even though everyone seems to make isolation exercises the “red-headed stepchild” in the muscle building / weight gain process, they build just as much muscle mass as any compound bodybuilding movement.

Don’t take my word for it: Here’s a quote from Markus Ruhl, one of the biggest IFBB professional bodybuilders ever, from a Flex interview: “The biggest mistake I see people make in chest training is assuming that flyes and cable crossovers are for definition and not mass building. Definition comes from diet and cardio; weight training is to gain mass. I never do an exercise that does not build mass, and that includes flyes and crossovers. I do them with full power….”

Especially in freezing environments, hot cocoa is a very popular drink. Well, not only does it tastes great (if you don’t burn off your taste buds, tongue, or roof of your mouth from the lava-like temperatures), but it also is good for gaining weight and building lean muscle. Hot cocoa is full of anti-oxidants, over 500 mgs worth.

Just so you can appreciate how many mgs that actually is, green tea, which now-a-days everyone seems to be praising the skies out of, only has about 50 mgs. Red wine only has about 160 mgs (unless, of course, you’re one of those that can’t seem to stop drinking after the first glass…..lol).

According to PAUL ELIAS and the Associated Press;

homas, the first figure connected to the Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative case to go to trial, shouted at the jury after being found guilty of three counts of perjury and a count of obstruction of justice. She was acquitted of two counts of perjury.

“I already had one career taken away from me,” she yelled, referencing her lifetime ban from cycling. “Look me in the eye. You can’t do it.”

Her father, who has sat in the front row of court during the two week trial, also raised his voice and said, “They can’t do it.”

Thomas then shouted and gestured at prosecutors: “Look me in the eye …. You like to destroy people’s lives.”

Thomas, prosecutors and jurors all had no comment.

Outside the courthouse, Thomas’ lawyer Ethan Balogh said he was disappointed.

“It is difficult for all of us who went through this trial,” Balogh said.

Legal experts said Thomas faces a prison sentence of between six months and several years. She is scheduled to be sentenced July 18.

The federal government steroids probe has ensnared a number of elite athletes, including home run king Barry Bonds, track star Marion Jones and former San Francisco 49ers player Dana Stubblefield. Investigators are also looking into whether pitcher Roger Clemens lied when he told Congress he never used performance-enhancing drugs.

Bonds is charged with perjury for allegedly lying to the same grand jury about never knowingly using performance-enhancing drugs.

Legal experts said Thomas’ trial offered Bonds’ lawyers a preview of what kind of evidence the slugger will face if his case goes to trial as expected. Two of Bonds’ attorneys, for instance, watched the government’s lead steroids investigator testify.

The investigator, IRS agent Jeff Novitzky, is expected to play a starring role for the government during Bonds’ trial, which isn’t expected to begin until next year.

Novitzky testified that Thomas’ lies hindered the federal investigation of drug maker Patrick Arnold, who prosecutors wanted to indict in 2003 but had to wait another three years to amass more evidence because of the cyclist’s perjured testimony.

The jury found Thomas guilty of falsely telling the grand jury that she had never taken steroids and had never received any performance-enhancing drugs from Arnold, who pleaded guilty in 2006 to making two undetectable steroids.

Thomas made her denials even though she was banned from cycling for life in August 2002 after the performance-enhancing drug Norbolethone was detected in her urine.

The drug, once an obscure steroid used in human tests in the 1960s, was rediscovered by Arnold, who supplied the Burlingame-based BALCO with undetectable performance-enhancing drugs.

Prosecutors also showed jurors Thomas medical records that showed she grew a full beard and underwent dramatic voice changes that a doctor diagnosed as side effects of heavy steroid use. Arnold also testified that he sent Thomas the steroids THG he invented at least once.

Thomas is the ninth BALCO figure to suffer convictions. Eight others, including Jones and BALCO founder Victor Conte, have pleaded guilty to various charges of perjury, drug and money laundering charges.

In addition, track coach Trevor Graham has pleaded not guilty to lying to federal agents about giving steroids to athletes. Graham’s trial in San Francisco federal court is scheduled to begin May 19. Graham helped spur the original BALCO investigation when he mailed a vial of Arnold’s designer drug also called “the clear” to the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency.

MY TAKE: Once again we have another big time athlete being accused of taking steroids that are usually taken for muscle building / endurance purposes. As always, innocent until proven guilty.

Isometric training, where you hold your muscle in the fully contracted, “flexed”, position, was found in The Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research to be just as effective on muscle performance as plyometric training, yet without the risk of injury from impact that’s often associated with plyometrics.

In my opinion, isometric holds are very effective at not only muscular performance, but also at stimulating muscle building and gains in body weight (with the addition of proper caloric intake).

NBC is reporting that the second season of the hard hitting, muscle-bashing extraveganza known as American Gladiators is not only increasing in muscle-vibe, but also in venue as well. Taping are going to be at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena, has about 13,000 seats around the arena.

Salt does not cause high blood pressure

You’ve heard it a million times, you shouldn’t eat salt because it will raise your blood pressure. Well, large scale scientific reviews have shown that there’s no reason for people with normal blood pressure to restrict their sodium (salt) usage.

It’s been known for 20 years now that people with high blood pressure who don’t want to lower their salt intake can simply more potassium-containing foods, since they keep each other balanced out. Dutch researchers determined that a low potassium intake has the same impact on your blood pressure as high salt consumption.

Good sources of potassium are fruits, vegetables, and legumes….such as bananas, white potatoes, spinach, and broccoli.

High fructose corn syrup is NOT more fattening than regular sugar!

According to a column in Men’s Health, both high fructose corn syrup and table sugar contain similar amounts of fructose. For instance, the two most commonly used types of HFCS are HFCS-42 and HFCS-55, which are 42% and 55% fructose, respectively. Table sugar is almost chemically identical, containing 50% fructose.

This is why the University of California at Davis, continues to report the column, scientists determined fructose intakes from both HFCS and table sugar. The truth is, there’s no evidence to show any differences in these two types of sugar. Both will cause you to blur your muscular definition and will result in weight gain when consumed in excess, but of the bad kind.

Just watch what you drink, such as soft drinks, sweetened fruit juices, and prepackaged desserts (unless, of course, it’s your higher calorie days….yum).

Yes, NBC’s highest rated new show is coming back for a second season, starting on May 12th. There will be some replacements of the professional Gladiators and some of the actual physical events (which I’m happy about getting rid some of those obstacles). As to which pro Gladiators will be cut is yet to be made public. I do know for sure that Militia will remain, since I was able to personally meet and speak to him at this year’s Arnold Classic Fitness Expo, in which he mentioned that to me. I also had the pleasure of meeting Wolf, Justice, Titan, Sirene, and the women’s runner up Shanay.

One way to burn fat or keep fat at a minimum while you focus on gaining muscle weight is to stay out of the elevator and off the escalator. Walking up stairs burns more calories than playing tennis or jogging. Just adding two flights of stairs to your normal physical activity each day could lead to a fat burning effect and weight loss of 12 pounds in one year.

Again, even though muscle building is your main goal, you still have to keep body fat in check…..this is one way how you can accomplish this.

When boiling or steaming, the nutrients end up in water ,which people usually pour down the drain. To boost broccoli’s benefits, switch to microwave instead.

Microwaving preserves more than 90% of the vegetable’s Vitamin C, an important cancer fighting nutrient, continues to report MuscleMag. Microwave your veggies without adding water so that they cook in their own juices. To ensure they cook evenly, stir halfway through.

The more vitamins you’re body can utilize, the more muscle building and weight gain you’ll grab a hold of.

Stop Being Lazy and Stretch!

According to the American Council on Exercise, stretching is an important aspect of your weight lifting routine aimed at building muscle and gaining weight. Instead of heading straight to the showers after your intense workout routine, take a few minutes to work on your flexibility. Stretching moves are very important in increasing your range of motion, releasing muscle tension and soreness, reducing your risk of injury and increasing physical and mental relaxation. Stretch slowly with no bouncing whatsoever. Remember to breath throughout the movements.

The more agile your muscles are the easier it will be to create a good pump and burn needed to build muscle mass naturally and gain weight fast.

Food and Drug Administration Targeting Supplements Manufacturers

According to The Tan Sheet, some supplements contain prescription drugs that could be dangerous or get you busted during a drug test. In the past few years a significant number of weight lifters were caught for taking the banned anabolic steroid nandrolone, also known as Deca or Deca Durabolin. Those who are informed know that this particular anabolic steroid can stay in blood system for more than 6 months after stopping usage, mainly done for muscle building and weight gain purposes.

However, what was found in some of these cases was that these trainers took bodybuilding supplements contaminated (known as “spiking”) with small amounts of nandrolone. The Food and Drug Administration, also known as the FDA, announced that it plans to step up efforts to eliminate illegal ingredients in food supplements and enforce regulations against supplement makers who make unsubstantiated health claims for their products.

Water Is Powerful Aid For Muscle Building Training

I know, I know. You’ve heard it over a billion times that you must drink water and to all of its benefits. Well, hey, here’s one more for you.

According to a column in Mens Health, water is a powerful lifting aid. University of Connecticut researchers discovered that men who hydrated with water before lifting completed 17% more reps per set during a lower body workout than thirsty exercisers.

Turns out, your nervous system slows your muscle activation when you’re not adequately hydrated, continues to report the column.

My take: I completely agree with the fact that the majority of us do not drink enough water. The advantages that water provides are way too many not to drink it. I mean, c’mon, it’s free (unless you’re foolish enough to shell out $2.00 for tap water just because it comes in some fancy looking water with a beautiful water fall on the label). Water is one of the few substances that can actually make a difference in your muscle building / weight gain goals.

According to a column in MuscleMag International, researchers have discovered that eating garlic appears to boost our natural supply of hydrogen sulfide, which acts as an antioxidant and transmits cellular signals that relax blood vessels and increase blood flow. Boosting hydrogen sulfide production may help to protect against various cancers, including breast, prostate and colon cancer. Higher concentrations of hydrogen sulfide may also protect your heart.

The downside of a garlic-rich diet, continues to report MuscleMag, is that to take advantage of all of its benefits, you’d have to consume 8-12 cloves every day. You could simply add garlic to every meal you eat throughout the day, but you’d have to deal with the bad breath that comes with eating it. Maximize garlic’s health benefits when cooking with it by crushing the cloves at room temperature and letting them sit for about 15 minutes to allow the trigger of an enzyme reaction that boosts garlic’s healthy compounds.

Olive oil excellent for health

According to a column in MuscleMag, olive oil is touted as being healthy for your heart, but it is also beneficial for your stomach. Researchers at Valme University Hospital in Seville, Spain, combined virgin olive oil with H. pylori, which causes most peptic ulcers and come types of stomach cancer, in a test tube containing acid similar to that found in your stomach. The oil killed eight different strains of the powerful bacteria, 3 of which even antibiotics couldn’t defeat.

Olive oil’s high level of polyphenols is credited for the results.

My take: hey, anything that keeps your digestive system and internals organs running smoothly is always going to bode well for your muscle building / weight gaining goals.

Phil Heath Wins The 2008 IronMan Pro

This weekend, professional bodybuilder Phil Heath won in decisive manner. Adding at least 15 pounds of new muscle in the last year, definitely bringing up body parts that he considered needed some working on, such has his shoulders, is now laying to rest any doubts to whether if he is the next big thing in bodybuilding or not. Amazing how someone who has only competed in 3 or 4 professional bodybuilding competitions, yet has won 3 of them.

Smallest Bodybuilder In The World Getting A Lot Of Attention

According to a story at FoxNews.com, Aditya “Romeo” Dev of Phagwara, India, is a little person who is only 2 feet, 9 inches tall and weighs not even 20 pounds, yet he causes a lot of stir on a daily basis when he works out at the local gym.

In 2006, after months of intense exercise, the Guinness Book of World Records named Dev the smallest bodybuilder on the planet.

It’s individuals like Aditya that are true inspiration, because he doesn’t let anything stand in his way of reaching his muscle building goals. If someone that only weighs 20 pounds and is less than 3 feet tall can engage in a healthy weight gaining (of muscle, of course) lifestyle, why not all of us.

First, there’s been two very tragic deaths recently. According to reports by GetBig, Dr. Bruce Nadler, who has assisted several competitive bodybuilders, is said to have shot and killed his wife Terri, and then turned around and committed suicide. This is said to have occured in the Park La Brea area of Los Angeles on Saturday. Both individuals were 61 years old.

And in lighter news, the muscle building radio show Professional Bodybuilding Weekly has announced that on tonight’s episode they will be talking legend Bob Paris, and will be discussing the upcoming IronMan competition.

According to GetBig.com, Erik “The Viking” Fromm was found dead at his Wisconsin home last night. It has not been found out or made public what was the exact cause of his untimely and sudden death. Erik was a consistent top 10 NPC Super-Heavyweight Bodybuilder.

Erik has appeared on many advertisements and photos in leading bodybuilding muscle magazines. He was only 36 years old! Incredibly sad and tragic, to say the least. More will be posted on this Muscle Weight Gain & Muscle Building Blog as it’s released.

IFBB Pro Bodybuilder Dropped From Magazine

According to GetBig, IFBB professional bodybuilder Desmond Miller has been released from his duties as a contributing writer for the magazine Muscular Development, in which he wrote a monthly column, where he detailed what was going on with his training and competition preparations, as well as some question and answer sections.

Although he may no longer be writing for the magazine, he’s still competing in the upcoming winter / spring shows.

Stronger Knees Bigger Muscle Building

According to a column in MuscleMag, as long as you don’t damage your joints with excessive weights, increasing your quad strength can help protect the cartilage behind your knee caps. Knee cartilage deteriorates over time and leads to osteoarthritis.

Researchers at the Mayo Clinic, continues to report the same column, found that people who had stronger quads had less cartilage loss in the patellofemoral joint. So remember, hit those lunges for not only building muscles in the hams and quads, but for long-term knee health!

Coffee Can Keep Your Arteries From Clogging

According to the January / February issue of Mens Health, coffee can keep your arteries from clogging. While analyzing the cholesterol levels of 10 coffee drinkers, Swiss scientists found that LDL (which is the “bad” cholesterol) particles soak up coffee’s antioxidants. As a result, the LDL is 20% less likely to become an oxidized form of the bad cholesterol that develops into artery-clogging plaque, according to Cristina Scaccini, one of the study’s author.

The benefits are up to the consumption of 3 daily cups of coffee. Hey, even decaf gives the same benefits!!

Yet another reason why coffee has got to be one of the most effective, cheapest, and most available muscle building / weight gaining / health promoting substances on earth.

Do Prohormones Cause More Side Effects Than Steroids?

In the latest Muscular Development, a very interesting comment is made about how prohormones are toxic and many have side effects similar to anabolic steroids. The thing is that prohormones, being ingested by mouth, must pass through the liver before it can hit the blood. This can negatively affect the liver. This is in contrast steroids that are injected, which bypass completely the liver, thus, not having much of an effect on it all.

As the column states, prohormones are actually more toxic and possess more side effects than real injectable anabolic steroids. Amazing, huh!!?

BSN being sued for alledged false advertising of ingredients

As reported by GetBig, the bodybuilding supplement manufacturer BSN is being sued by Michael Rivera and Dan Abell. They are alleging that BSN claims that some of their supplements contain CEM3 (Creatine Ethyl Ester Malate), when in actuality, according to Rivera and Abell, they don’t. The two gentlemen also are claiming that BSN does not have a patent on this substance, even though the company says they do.

On the flip side of things, BSN has released an official response to these allegations, claiming that the accusations being brought against them are completely false. In the statement, they also go on and mention some awards they have recently won, that you can’t believe what’s said on the message boards, and that they have in fact filed a patent for CEM3 (Creatine Ethyl Ester Malate).

I’m sure we’ll soon see how this all develops, especially being that BSN has quickly become one of the main players in the dietary supplement industry, endorsing such excellent athletes like Ronnie Coleman, Monica Brant, Anthony Presciano, Trey Brewer, Brandon Curry, Anthony Galvan, and Julian Greaux.

Many, if not most, that try to burn body fat fast, or keep body fat levels in check while going through a muscle building / weight gain phase, make drastic adjustments to their food intake in order to get or stay “cut / defined”.

This could be one of the worst things you could do.

Huge drops in calorie levels can cause your body to do exactly what you don’t want it to do, which is to slow the metabolism down in order to keep up with the drastic cut. The body does not adjust well to mega calorie cuts in a diet, especially if done for more than a couple of days.

When the body senses that there is a much less amount of calories being supplied to it, the metabolism slows down to be able to continue to function at the new, lower level….all of which make it even harder to burn fat and results in losing that hard gained muscle mass.

Diary Could Be Blurring Your Muscular Definition

When upping your muscle building efforts, it’s very important to not fall into the big at all costs trap, making yourself eventually look like the Pillsbury Dough boy.

Recently, a study conducted in the Netherlands didn’t not find a relationship between consuming dairy products and weight loss, even though this is what has been getting hyped up lately. In their experimentation, that observed more than 2000 males and females. Blood sugar, blood fats, and abdominal fat wasn’t positively affected by higher consumptions of dairy products.

As a matter of fact, dairy products has the effect in many to “blur” their muscular definition, basically covering up any muscle building progress they may have been making from their workout routines and nutritional intake.

More Steroid Scandals Rock The Baseball World

After 20 months of investigations, Senate Majority leader George Mitchell has released a 409 page report exposing allegations of rampant steroid use within Major League Baseball.

89 total players, current and retired, were named, including heavy hitters such as Roger Clemens, Miguel Tejada, Fernando Vina, Andy Pettitte, Lenny Dyckstra, and others. This is a completely bigger box of problems that has now been opened.

Some of the drugs that have been rumored for the last several years to be used are testosterone, HGH (aka Human Growth Hormone), Dianabol, Deca Durabolin, amphetimines, and others.

Although some of these substances have been shown to be crucial in muscle building and weight gaining, many are alleging that Major League Baseball players are using these substances to enhance strength, speed, muscle / tendon / ligament recovery, and even improved vision.

We’ll have to see what the overall results will be.

Fish and Cancer Prevention

Even though your main purpose for working out may be for muscle building or fat burning purposes, your overall health still must be a high priority of yours. Hey, it doesn’t how much muscle you’re carrying or how much weight you can lift if your body is in a diseased state.

Well, Ironman Magazine has some interesting information to say about fish and cancer prevention. According to the mag, fish may help prevent prostate cancer (which is a big problem amongst males). Research published in The Lancet found that men who ate fish two to three times a week were less likely to get the disease than those who didn’t eat fish. The omega-3 fats and their anti-inflammatory effects appear to be the reason.

Sure you want to hit those muscle building workouts hard, but you’ve gotta keep that cancer away!

…….Also, I had forgot to post on it several months ago, but I’d like to bid 8 time Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman farewell, as he has made his retirement official. Never in the history of this contest has the champion been so unbelievably dominant as was Ronnie Coleman, not even Arnold!
