Red Bull Doesn’t Boost Workout Energy
Dietary supplements, such as energy drinks, are the “magical little pill” that most people that workout to gain weight, build muscle, or burn fat, place all of their hopes and dreams on. We have been brainwashed into believing that in order to have an intense, muscle building workout that we have to first have some type of energy drink to “help boost are strength and power”. One of the most popular, if not “the” most popular energy drink out right now is Red Bull.
Well, I’m here to tell you that Red Bull’s are a waste of your hard earned money!
First, just so you know, pretty much the only ingredient that is used in pretty much energy drink that actually works at raising your energy levels to help you workout hard is caffeine. You can go on ahead and ignore all of the other “exotic herbs” that thrown into the mix, since none of them make any difference. They are cheap ingredients that are added to the concoction so that supplement manufacturers can raise the already ridiculous price. Plus, the more ingredients bodybuilders see on a label, the more “bang for their buck” they think they’re getting.
So, it comes down to the caffeine.
Well, a regular can of Red Bull only contains 77 mgs of caffeine. Your typical cup of coffee contains at least twice that amount. And that’s if you’re one of those coffee drinkers that likes your java so weak it looks and tastes like hot ice tea. If you like your coffee strong, or drink just about any type of spanish coffee, like Bustelo, Goya, Pilon, etc., you’re getting several hundred mgs per cup. Mmmmmm.
So, you’re paying for a can of Red Bull that doesn’t even contain half the amount of caffeine of regular, weak-to-moderate strength coffee.
Second, Men’s Health reports that “in a Canadian study…fifteen men who drank as much as two cans of the energy drink an hour prior to a sprint workout did not experience a performance boost. The beverage just doesn’t provide enough of jolt”.
I recommend that if you’re serious about muscle buiding and gaining weight, you save your money and buy a seventy five cent cup of coffee instead of a two dollar can of Red Bull.
